North East Advanced Manufacturing Forum

The National Careers Service supported the Advanced Manufacturing Forum "Skills for Manufacturing" event, held on the 19th August at South Tyneside College. The event was led by the BBC business reporter Steph McGovern.

The event focussed on addressing the emerging skills shortages of the engineering and manufacturing sector with an estimated 20,000 science, research, engineering & technology professionals required by 2022 in the North East, (UKCES working Futures).

The event was attended by over 100 industrialists, primarily members and associate members of the Advanced Manufacturing Forum (AMF).

As those who attended are committed to the advancement of skills throughout the sector and of the nurturing of future talent, Carly Hinds from the National Careers Service was given the opportunity to highlight the aims of Supporting Inspiration and the benefits it offers schools, employers and young people.

As a result, Wolf Group, Mecaplast and Siemens all signed up to deliver careers and work related learning activities in schools and colleges through the Supporting Inspiration Service; pledging over sixty hours of support over the next year.
