Kid ’ sCorner With Emma

Hi , kids ! Welcome to the Kids ’ Corner ! I can ’ t believe I ’ ve been writing this for almost a year now ! It seems like just a couple weeks ago I was starting on the first article , but that was actually last summer . I ’ ve traversed my first year in middle school and done some other pretty awesome things this year , including taking trips with my family , getting to know some really cool kids through these interviews , and starting on a book I ’ ve always wanted to write .
This issue we have an interview with one of my friends , Claire Burke . I hope you enjoy reading about her just as much as I enjoy knowing her ! If you want to be interviewed , have a cool idea for this page , or have a beautiful work of art you want to share , just email us at info @ gmhtoday . com . We really want to see what you do !
A few weeks ago , I became a certified babysitter through the City of Gilroy ’ s SafeSitter program . I got to complete this two-day course with several of my close friends , so that was a lot of fun . Ever since I was little I wanted to babysit . I ’ m not kidding , when I was maybe eight I saw the SafeSitter program in the City of Gilroy ’ s Recreational guide and I told my mom I wanted to do that . Well , four years later , I finally have ! I think this course really helped me feel confident and ready for any problems I might have in babysitting .
Now that the weather is getting warmer ( was it ever cold ?), my family and I have enjoyed a few bike rides . We like to ride on the levee and around Mantelli Drive . One of the other things we enjoy doing , especially around sunset is taking a walk . There are some really pretty hikes , walks , and paths that you can take in and around Gilroy and Morgan Hill .
The final experience I want to share with you was going to science camp . I went to Walden West Outdoor School with my class in February . That was really cool . Every day , we went on two hikes through the beautiful woods around the camp . Along with getting a lot of exercise and learning about ecosystems , I also bonded with my classmates . I ’ m closer to my friends whom I bunked with . I learned independence skills there , too . Science camp is an experience I ’ ll never forget .
Looking back over this past school year is crazy . I can ’ t believe it ’ s almost over . But I look forward to this summer and seventh grade , along with all of the challenges it may bring .
