THE WEEK AHEAD …..
January 12th—16th
Neil McBurney
Head of School
The new semester began for teachers on Monday where we collaborated in groups to develop whole school goals as a part of the UISG
Strategic Plan 2015-2019. It was wonderful to have all our students
return on Tuesday and it was clear that they were very happy to rekindle friendships. I take this opportunity to introduce Ms. Crystal
Hemandez, who is our new Early Years teacher. Crystal has extensive international experience and has travelled to UISG from Brazil.
The teacher recruitment process is now in progress, with some exceptional teachers applying for positions at the school. I travel to
London on Tuesday, with David Coles, to participate in the CIS Recruitment Fair, followed by the CRS Recruitment Fair in Abu Dhabi.
Thursday, January 15th is a very special Book
Character Day. Staff and students will be encouraged
to choose their favourite book and dress up as one of
their interesting book characters.
Joan Philp
Head of Primary
To promote the pleasure of reading, the day will be
dedicated to ‘books we love’ and lessons will focus on
reading and related activities. A parade of students
dressing up as characters from those books will also
be part of the celebration.
We have had a busy start to the semester which has made my first
week in the role of Head of Secondary hectic but equally rewarding.
Year 12 students were measured for their Graduation Gowns on
Wednesday and they are working heard and looking ahead to their
mock exams which are only a few weeks away.
Amanda McDonald
Head of Secondary
Coming up next week many students are starting new units of work
in their MYP subjects. Rehearsals continue for our School musical
production “Little Shop of Horrors” and our basketball and volleyball
teams will be playing at AISG - Good luck to all our players (and the
coaches).
