ART & DESIGN What does the course involve? Art and Design encourages students to work through a variety of processes to investigate the most effective way to solve an aesthetic problem. These studies, produced in work journal format, research and analyse a wide variety of information linked to the areas being investigated. This involves looking at the work of other artists, experimenting with different media and showing clear developmental processes employed to reach an independent and imaginative conclusion. AS Unit 1 Thematic enquiry and Expressive study ā€“ Material World Unit 2 Externally set examination (8 hours) A2 Unit 3 Personal study ā€“ a visual and annotated investigation of a chosen topic Unit 4 Externally set examination (12 hours) What qualifications do I need? Standard Sixth Form entry requirement with a grade ā€˜Cā€™ or above in GCSE Art. Equipment Materials will be provided, but students will be advised to have a range of their own pencils, brushes and other art materials, including a camera. Assessment The course will be assessed through practical work and an end of course examination. General Comments Students should be prepared before and during the course to visit places and exhibitions to see examples of Art, Design and Architecture first hand. Be prepared to collect your own library of art books and resources and watch the many excellent programmes being shown on TV. Future Prospects Many of our students go on to follow art and design college courses and whilst others have found employment in a wide variety of art-based careers e.g. graphic design, animation, teaching, working painters and ceramicists, theatre and costume design, product design.
