Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands to
bring dedicated pediatric care to growing
community
Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands
will open its doors in 2017, bringing
specialty care closer to home for the rapidly
growing population of The Woodlands
and communities north of Houston. The
548,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility
is being designed specifically to serve
children and families and will be the first
hospital devoted to children’s care in The
Woodlands community.
“We are thrilled to continue our commitment
to providing high-quality pediatric care
to The Woodlands community,” said
Michelle Riley-Brown, president of Texas
Children’s Hospital The Woodlands. “We
look forward to providing access to even
more subspecialty services in a convenient
location for patients and families.”
The communities in this area are some of
the fastest-growing in the nation, with a
combined population already exceeding 1.1
million. The pediatric population alone
is projected to grow to more than 350,000
in the next three years. Families have
been driving more than 35 miles to get to
a dedicated pediatric emergency center and
specialized inpatient care. When illness or
injury threatens the life of a child, that’s just
too far to go. Texas Children’s Hospital The
Woodlands will meet this need.
Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands
will offer inpatient and outpatient specialty
pediatric care in areas including: cancer,
cardiology,
neurology,
orthopedics,
diabetes and endocrinology, urology,
sports medicine, gastroenterology and
nutrition, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery,
otolaryngology, allergy and immunology,
dermatology, adolescent medicine, and
physical rehabilitation.
Led by Riley-Brown and chief medical
officer Dr. Charles Hankins, Texas
Children’s Hospital The Woodlands will
include 25 emergency center rooms, 72
outpatient exam rooms, 12 radiology rooms,
four operating rooms, and 32 acute care
beds at opening with expansion plans in
place to accommodate future growth. In
addition to serving families throughout The
Woodlands, Texas Children’s anticipates
serving families in counties throughout
Greater
North
Houston
including
Montgomery, Walker, Grimes, Liberty,
Harris, Polk, San Jacinto, and Hardin
counties and beyond.
“As we move closer to opening our doors,
we have connected with organizations
throughout the community in order to be
a good neighbor,” added Riley-Brown. “In
the future, we will host and sponsor many
events to bring families in The Woodlands
together.”
Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands
building project is part of Promise: The
Campaign for Texas Children’s Hospital.
The goal of the comprehensive $475 million
fundraising effort is to help ensure that
Texas Children’s continues to meet the
needs of the patients it serves 5, 10 and even
20 years from now. t
