Robert “Robin” Hess ’52 is enjoying an active retirement as a
writer and substitute pastor. He graduated from Manchester with
a degree in peace studies and earned his master of divinity degree
from Pacific School of Religion in 1958. He has held a range of
diverse jobs that he says he has “thoroughly enjoyed,” including
the pastor of five United Methodist Church congregations,
counselor, librarian, real estate broker and appraiser, chauffeur,
taxi driver and bus driver. He and his wife, Arlene, retired in 2000
to Vashon Island, Wash. His books include Christmas in Oz, L.
Frank Baum and the Perfect Murder, and Toto and the Cats of Oz.
