Cam Todd came out with an inspirational win to knock off the younger players.” Rusco thanks the community for being open to hold the event. “Players came from all over the world and they felt welcomed and recognized by the community and they will come back,” Rusco said. “One family enjoyed the community’s passion for disc golf so much that they are wanting to move to Emporia and finished their master’s degree.” Coming off a day of relentless downpour and gusting winds, everyone was happy to finally catch a break in Emporia just in time for the third and final round of the 2016 Glass Blown Open (GBO). Taking place at the GBO’s signature course, Emporia Country Club, and complimented by sunshine, it was bound to be an eventful day for the largest disc golf tournament in the history of the sport. The election is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. In October voters turned down a $39 million bond proposal. The district trimmed the budget and came back with a bond proposal for $30.9 million. Four polling places will be open on May 3 throughout North Lyon County. Those include the North Lyon County meeting room in Americus, the North Lyon County Library in Allen, the Admire Community Center and the Reading Civic Center. Voters will need to bring their photo identification with them to vote. Identification is required for all elections. The Gazette will provide special coverage following the election, beginning as soon as the polling places close.   VOL. 124, NO. 260 A BIRTHDAY TO CELEBRATE By Jessie Wagoner [email protected]  The Emporia Recreation Center is now 63 years old and the community celebrated on Sunday. A bounce house, outdoor games and a 5K and 10K race were a part of the festivities. Free hot dogs, chips and drinks were also available to guests.  This year, close to 90 individuals, many of them children, participated in the races. Amanda Gutierrez, program supervisor says that many of the participants recently finished the couch-to-5k program offered by ERC.  “We have the couch to 5K program in the schools and two classes here,” Gutierrez said. “So they have been training and are running their 5k today.”  For those not wanting to run there were outdoor games to play and a bounce house. The majority of the children participating in the race have been training in the after-school program.
