Special to The Gazette
Despite the adverse weather
conditions during the Glass Blown
Open tournament, Dynamic Discs
owner Jeremy Rusco could not
have been happier with the results.
“Our staff did exceptional work
even with the weather to host the
largest disc golf event in history,”
Rusco said. “The finish was also
amazing ... Cam Todd came out
with an inspirational win to knock
off the younger players.”
Rusco thanks the community
for being open to hold the event.
“Players came from all over the
world and they felt welcomed and
recognized by the community and
they will come back,” Rusco said.
“One family enjoyed the community’s passion for disc golf so much
that they are wanting to move to
Emporia and finished their master’s degree.”
Coming off a day of relentless
downpour and gusting winds, everyone was happy to finally catch
a break in Emporia just in time for
the third and final round of the
2016 Glass Blown Open (GBO).
Taking place at the GBO’s signature course, Emporia Country
Club, and complimented by sunshine, it was bound to be an eventful day for the largest disc golf
tournament in the history of the
sport.

A BIRTHDAY TO CELEBRATE
By Jessie Wagoner

The Emporia Recreation Center
is now 63 years old and the community celebrated on Sunday. A bounce
house, outdoor games and a 5K and
10K race were a part of the festivities. Free hot dogs, chips and drinks
were also available to guests.
This year, close to 90 individuals,
many of them children, participated
in the races. Amanda Gutierrez, program supervisor says that many of
the participants recently finished the
couch-to-5k program offered by ERC.
“We have the couch to 5K program in the schools and two classes
here,” Gutierrez said. “So they have
been training and are running their
5k today.”
For those not wanting to run
there were outdoor games to play
and a bounce house. This is the third
year the birthday bash has been held.
