COMMUNITY DIGEST In TIDBITS FOR AND ABOUT GILROY • MORGAN HILL • SAN MARTIN ROTARY CLUB OF MORGAN HILL DICTIONARIES FOR THIRD GRADE For the sixth consecutive year, the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill has distributed dictionaries to every third grader in Morgan Hill. Chief of Police David Swing, accompanied by Carol Carr, presented the beautiful hardbound “MacMillan for Children” dictionaries at the schools. The presentation included a fun exercise in the use of the dictionary. The majority of the club worked on the project for weeks, with tasks from preparing the books with a bookplate where the child can enter his or her name to delivering the books to the students, which is the fun part. They reported that it was thrill to see how excited each child was to eeceive their very own dictionary. Over 300 seniors were treated to a day of entertainment, food and fellowship. The day’s entertainment featured the Fabulous Flappers, Dance With Passion, The Little Gym and the Ukuladies. Food was prepared by Rotarians, under the watchful eye of Rosy Bergin, owner of Rosy’s at the Beach. The entree for the day was BBQ Pork Loin. Service to the seniors was provided by a combination of high school seniors affiliated with local Interact clubs and Rotarians. Therese Kiernan, this year’s presi- dent, commented “This is a perfect example of an event which makes you feel good about being a Rotarian. It is a lot of work but that doesn’t matter. As soon as you see the sea of smiling and happy seniors enjoying the entertainment and meal, it is all worthwhile.” MAY/JUNE 2017 gmhtoday.com
