In line with the purpose of the Design Indaba expo, which is all about taking creativity to the next level, the aim was to supply a trendy and modern tile. The tile also needed to fit the design of the stand, which had a very bold design as well as modern light fixtures. “We supplied a custom-made ceramic tile with octagonal patterns and small inserts. The tile also had three shades of blue, white and grey,” said Tharien Smith, New Product Designer at Johnson Tiles. “The industry is moving away from plain tiles and we are seeing more pattern. Our inkjet printer was used for this project and this allowed us to include photorealistic patterns and motifs that were printed directly onto the tile surface before firing,” says Smith. 70 NEOLITH LAUNCHES EXCITING NEW COLOURS NEOLITH compact sintered surfaces, the largest format porcelain slab brand on the market, will be adding exciting, new marble and concrete-inspired colours to their product offerings. With the demand for marble reaching fever pitch in design and even fashion circles, NEOLITH has now made it possible to achieve the look of marble with all the durability of compact sintered surfaces. Calacatta offers the look of traditional Calacatta marble, showing off a white background with intricate narrow and wide grey veining patterns, while Pulpis captures the mushroom tones and winter white veining of Pulpis marble. The industrial, concrete look has also become a strong element in urban design schemes, but using real concrete can make for a dusty interior. Cement finishes are also susceptible to chips and cracks. NEOLITH slabs don’t emit dust or residues and are chip and crack resistant, so can offer the look of concrete without any of the disadvantages. Beton will be added to the existing concrete colour palette, providing a more textured design. Iron Moss and Nero are the final additions to the NEOLITH range, offering consumers and commercial designers a new, metallic, textured look and a flat, black surface for even more design options. About NEOLITH At 3.2m x 1.5m, NEOLITH is the largest format porcelain slab available in South Africa and is ideal for use as countertops, flooring, wall cladding and paving. NEOLITH can be used indoors and outdoors and is perfect for creating a holistic design scheme. NEOLITH is exceptionally heat resistant, withstanding up to 1,000°C without cracking, burning or thermal shock. Its attractive, matte, non-slip finishes make it a safe option for paving or flooring and a design-conscious choice for kitchen countertops. In terms of hygiene, NEOLITH is virtually non-porous, which prevents bacteria and dirt from impregnating the surface. Slabs are available in 6mm and 12mm gauges, with 12mm slabs preferable when designing countertop installations. www.neolith.co.za Interior Watch
