04 HOUSE & GARDEN Wither Hills Winery The stunning fireplace is lit for visitors and diners every winter morning. Wither Hills houses two grand fireplaces, inside the dining area and outside on the rooftop function space. The open fireplaces were integrated into the Californian-inspired design during the original build and remain features with recent renovations. The striking stonework uses schist from the Pukaka Quarry adjacent tothe Wither Hills Vineyard in Rarangi and reflects the architecture of the surrounding restaurant and cellar door. Avril’s thoughts: This inviting rustic stone-clad fireplace screams out to gather around for warmth, comfort food, and a wine. The chunky coloured concrete mantelpiece and hearth are perfect for placing ornaments and people! Great use of storage and convenience with wood boxes either side. Use products with natural fibres such as leather, linen, timber, wicker. Place heavier pieces of furniture nearer the fireplace as a meeting point. Karibu Interior Design Wither Hills Cellar Door and Restaurant | New Renwick Road Open Daily 10am – 4pm Herzog The gorgeous fireplace, built to the owner's own design in 2004 by Cuddon Engineering, is part of the whole natural concept and high quality the organic estate stands for. Raw metal cladding with rivets, which have been around as early as 3000 BC, are repeated in the cellar door counter/bar and surrounding furniture, natural but still oozing elegance. This cladding is hard-wearing, safe and has a warm, cosy quality to it. We love timeless designs, objects with history...like wine.
