Re-Branding

Conservative Judaism

Over the past 25 years, Conservative Judaism has lost about 1/3 of its members. What's needed to stop the bleeding? Well, the United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism (USCJ) believes that the solution lies in sharpening its messaging. They have hired leading New York marketing agency Good Omen to oversee their re-branding effort. Good Omen has already begun interviewing hundreds of Conservative Jews as the first step in developing a new position statement for the USCJ.

Conservative Judaism occupies a moderate middle ground between the more liberal Reform Judaism and the more heavily restrictive Orthodox Judaism. For instance, Conservative Judaism welcomes members from the LGBTQ community and even supports same-sex marriages. However, the Conservative movement does not sanction intermarriage and only recognizes children born from Jewish mothers as Jewish.

From the steps that they are taking, it's safe to assume that Conservative Judaism believes that it still has all the right answers, it just needs better packaging.
