Homelessness In South Santa Clara County A Place to Call Home Written By Robin Shepherd I n Santa Clara County, an estimated 6,500 men, women and children have no place to call home. It’s unacceptable and it’s happening on our watch. Nothing short of a countywide effort can overcome homelessness. Fortunately, some of the smartest people in our county are collaborating to achieve this mission and their sustained efforts are beginning to gain traction. Our county and city leaders agree the problem of homelessness constitutes a crisis of great urgency. They’ve adopted the Community Plan to End Homelessness in Santa 24 GILROY • MORGAN HILL • SAN MARTIN Clara County as a countywide guideline for a cohesive response. This plan came together through the efforts of public officials, advocates for the homeless, healthcare and social service providers, law enforcement, educators, housing developers, the faith community, nonprofits and concerned citizens. gmh TODAY is grateful to have spent time in recent weeks with people on the front lines and behind the scenes working together to bring an end to homelessness in our own backyard.
