In addition to health and hygiene education the women will teach ministry. The women will deliver special kits with handmade Right, Women of Lamont Wesleyan Church gather at a sewing bee to make hygiene products for the women of Haiti. The pads can last up to a year. Casey hopes to take 100 kits to Haiti on her upcoming mission trip. sanitary napkins, over-the-counter medications, bandages, ointments and more. “Women are women, mothers are mothers, no matter where they are in this world, and women face so much adversity when it comes to trying to survive every day and feeling the obligation to keep their children healthy and safe,” said Jola Casey of Madison.  The women and teen girls of Haiti struggle due to lack of resources available during their menstruation cycles. They have to miss a week of school or work because they don’t have access to appropriate products. The church comes to- gether to make hygiene kits to give to the women and girls. The washable napkins will last about a year and can provide women protection they need to go about their daily lives. Organizers also provide education, however as many of the women don’t understand why or how their monthly cycle works.  On the last mission trip, Casey was able to take about 75 health kits for women in need, but this time they are hoping to take 100.  Please see Haiti, Page 3 Elevator fire spreads to historic building By Cathryne Scharton [email protected] ALLEN — Friday afternoon an abandoned grain elevator in Allen caught on fire when a controlled burn became out of control.
