ARTIST EXCLUSIVES Darcy Lee Saxton I was born in Spokane in 1983, and was raised here with my family of seven. Growing up, making art was always a favorite pastime, as was playing “school” and pretending to be the teacher. I eventually decided to merge the two interests and become formally trained as an art educator. To do so, I attended Eastern Washington University and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education in 2005, and eventually earned my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. After spending a year teaching high school art, I moved to Portland, Oregon, where I gained my true arts education, working and showing alongside several artists in an artist collective. Here, I fell in love with art making. I eventually made my way back to Spokane, met my husband, and ventured into parenthood. I currently have two beautiful children under the age of three and teach high school art. Time is limited at this stage of my life, but I take every open opportunity I can to be engaged in art making. 8 ART CHOWDER MAGAZINE Vibration of Depth
