The Hyatt Regency in Downtown Louisville hosted
physicians from across the state for the Kentucky
Medical Association’s Annual Meeting held August
28-31.
The meeting had a slightly different feel from past
years as it took place over the weekend to better
accommodate physician office schedules. As such,
the Feference Committees which reviewed incoming physician resolutions took place on Friday, the
Physician Leadership Academy and the Presidents’
Installation Dinner followed on Saturday, and the
House of Delegates meeting and caucuses were
held on Sunday. Specialty group sessions and ICD10 training concluded the annual event on Monday.
Much of the action took place on Sunday at the
House of Delegates. This year, GLMS saw seven
out of eight submitted KMA resolutions adopted
by the House. The approved resolutions involved
(see page 3 for expanded information):
»»
Amended Limitation on AMA Delegates
»»
80 Percent Colorectal Screening by 2018
»»
Assisting Primary Care Physicians Who Provide Mental Health Care
Linda Gleis, MD, was selected as the 2015 recipient
of the KMA Distinguished Service Award.
»»
Improving Drug Treatment
»»
Promotion of Statewide Free Healthful Lifestyles Events
»»
Medicaid Prescriber Only Participating Status
»»
Vision Testing at Driver’s License Renewal
The one resolution which was not adopted regarded fighting drug abuse with Abuse Deterrent
Opioids. It was referred to the KMA Board for further
review and consideration.
Several members of GLMS spoke in favor of the
bills during the Reference Committees on Friday,
including GLMS President Bob Couch, MD, MBA,
GLMS President-Elect John Roberts, MD, GLMS
Treasurer Frank Burns, MD, Erica Sutton, MD,
Brian Sosnin, DO, Mary Helen Davis, MD, and
Julie Lee, MD.
In addition to GLMS’s success with resolutions,
several members were elected to leadership roles
at both the KMA and AMA levels. G. Randolph Schrodt, MD, was elected as KMA Board Chair. Linda
Gleis, MD, was elected as KMA Secretary-Treasurer
and was also selected as the 2015 recipient of the
