The meeting had a slightly different feel from past years as it took place over the weekend to better accommodate physician office schedules. As such, the Feference Committees which reviewed incoming physician resolutions took place on Friday, the Physician Leadership Academy and the Presidents’ Installation Dinner followed on Saturday, and the House of Delegates meeting and caucuses were held on Sunday. Specialty group sessions and ICD10 training concluded the annual event on Monday. Much of the action took place on Sunday at the House of Delegates. This year, GLMS saw seven out of eight submitted KMA resolutions adopted by the House. The approved resolutions involved (see page 3 for expanded information): »» Amended Limitation on AMA Delegates »» 80 Percent Colorectal Screening by 2018 »» Assisting Primary Care Physicians Who Provide Mental Health Care Linda Gleis, MD, was selected as the 2015 recipient of the KMA Distinguished Service Award. »» Improving Drug Treatment »» Promotion of Statewide Free Healthful Lifestyles Events »» Medicaid Prescriber Only Participating Status »» Vision Testing at Driver’s License Renewal The one resolution which was not adopted regarded fighting drug abuse with Abuse Deterrent Opioids. It was referred to the KMA Board for further review and consideration. Several members of GLMS spoke in favor of the bills during the Reference Committees on Friday, including GLMS President Bob Couch, MD, MBA, GLMS President-Elect John Roberts, MD, GLMS Treasurer Frank Burns, MD, Erica Sutton, MD, Brian Sosnin, DO, Mary Helen Davis, MD, and Julie Lee, MD. In addition to GLMS’s success with resolutions, several members were elected to leadership roles at both the KMA and AMA levels. G. Randolph Schrodt, MD, was elected as KMA Board Chair. Linda Gleis, MD, was elected as KMA Secretary-Treasurer and was also selected as the 2015 recipient of the KMA Distinguished Service Award for outstand(Continued on page 3)
