Craig Bernstein knew it was time to do a restaurant on his own after developing a successful concept from scratch for a different restaurant group. That’s when he decided to create Doc B’s, a straight forward American restaurant named after his late father Dr. Bernstein, who passed away five years ago from brain cancer. The concept has proven to become very popular with the locals and Bernstein notes “It can’t possibly fail if it’s named after a great person like my father.” Doc B’s takes a balanced approach to their menu that makes people want to come back for more. Their goal is to provide customers with a ton of options, not forcing them to eat just one type of food. The menu is large, but controlled, and changes seasonally. They have pizza, dinner entrees, and house made desserts. Even though Bernstein’s Dad is no longer with him, he proudly honored his father with a turkey sandwich on the menu called “The Bernie”. Bernie was his father’s nickname and the sandwich is just as fabulous as his Dad. “Something simple as a turkey sandwich embodies everything that he stood for,” Craig iterated.

Craig was introduced to the restaurant industry at a young age by his father’s best friend, Alan Bernstein (no relation), who was the Chairman and CEO at Morton’s Steak House. Alan Bernstein invited Craig and his father to sit court-side at a New York Knicks game, which was an unbelievable experience for the youngster. The next day in school he had to write a career report about what he wanted to be when he grew up. He titled his report “Restaurant Entrepreneur”, and from that point on Alan Bernstein became his mentor. Craig never worked for Morton’s Steak House, but did have a successful career with the Hillstone Restaurant Group at their popular Houston’s restaurant. That’s where he learned every aspect of the business from customer service to managing people.

Part of Bernstein’s success is sticking to what he does best
