Last year, my life almost ended…
I’d been to a local hospital to have my foot checked out because it
was sore and swollen. I have diabetes and know it’s important to care for
my feet. At the time, we thought it was just strained tendons.
But the next day, at work, I began to feel dizzy. Then, out of nowhere,
I collapsed.
I was rushed back to the hospital. After resting for a while, I began to
feel better. I stood up and tried to walk. I took ten steps before collapsing
again. My heart had stopped.
I’ll tell you the rest of my story in just a moment, but first I’d like
to introduce myself. My name is Ian Fitze. I’m writing today to ask if
you’ll send a special gift to help patients at the Mazankowski Alberta
Heart Institute. Patients just like me.
Doctors at the local hospital were able to get my heart beating
again. But over and over my heart stopped and they had to resuscitate
me. My body was shutting down.
They were doing the best that they could, but they just weren’t
