10 | MANE RAIL & INFRASTRUCTURE | OCTOBER 2017

In 2012, over 900 million people globally joined in watching the London Olympic Games throwing Britain into the spotlight as many watched professional athletes compete in beautiful purpose-built structures. But 5 years on after the London medals were awarded, how are the venues being used?

Over 25 venues were built to cover the variety of sports, some of which were temporary and dismantled after the games - others remain open to the public. The London Olympic stadium during the games held 80,000 spectators and was a showcase of British infrastructure. The stadium took 34 months to build with construction beginning in 2008.

Today it is the home to West Ham United FC and regular athletics events. The site the stadium sits on, Queen Elizabeth Olympic park, continues to thrive with visitors across the globe enjoying many of its offerings. It’s home to sports venues as well as parklands, waterways, playgrounds and cafes. The land has also seen a number of developments with new housing being built. By 2030, the Park will be home to more

than 10,000 new households,
