WELLNESS & WELL-BEING Making Dreams a Reality in 2018 By Sharee Silerio A s a child, it was difficult for me to count coins during math time, but words came easy, and I earned 100 percent on most of my spelling tests. Creating imaginary worlds and expressing my deepest thoughts – one sentence at a time – made me feel alive, connected and fulfilled. Though I fell in love with words and enjoyed writing, I never considered building a career out of it. But over the last three years, I’ve been on the journey of crafting a life where I do what I love every day – for work, play and even leisure time. My dream for 2018 is to focus on creative writing, starting with film and 88 GAZELLE STL television scripts. It’s not going to be easy, but I know that the lessons I’ve learned so far will be helpful in the New Year. If I could carry three nuggets of wisdom to keep me going when the going gets tough, these are the ones I would choose. I hope they also help you. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable You’ll want to scream, cry or hide when things get tough. You’ll consider going back to the way life was before you chose to walk this unknown path, even if you hated it. You might even feel like you’ve lost your mind. All of this hurts, but it’s necessary. If you want to try something new, become the best at what you do, or reach your fullest potential, you must challenge yourself. Pursuing your dreams will force you out of your comfort zone, but it will also prepare you for the future. Believe in Yourself Envision yourself accomplishing your dreams. Use your five senses to experience what it will be like when your dreams are reality. You have created amazing things out of nothing before, and you can do it again. Choose to have the mindset t hat you can do anything you put your mind, heart, will and action toward. Focus on the Positive Keep your mind on what you have done, not how far you have to go. Be OK with making mistakes because they’re a part of the process, and each one is a step toward the manifestation of your dreams. When you complete a task or milestone, reward yourself. Acknowledge that you are making progress, and be thankful for each step forward. Surround yourself with people, places and things that encourage you.
