er a list of 10 grant makers who
fund projects like he Narrator.
he East Cleveland Narrator is
a monthly platform for all
community members—whose
views are diverse and
sometimes opposing—to
provide factual information
and tell our own true stories of
East Cleveland.
If you have ideas about where to
get funding, please share them.
Also, we can always use individ‐
ual donations. We've received
$1,143 since August 2014. If ev‐
ery reader donated just one dol‐
lar a month, he Narrator
would never go out of print.
ABOUT OUR
GRANT...
Even while we are on break,
your donations--and ads in our
digital edition and on our web‐
site--show foundations that are
considering funding the paper
that we have supporters.

Well, he Narrator didn't get
the grant we applied for. A rep‐
resentative from the grant mak‐
er told me they wanted to fund
us but ran out of money. So we
still don't have the funds to stay
in print.
But we won't give up on our
plan to get back into the hands
of East Cleveland readers. We're
learning how to become better
at writing grants. We're also
In addition, donations and ad

to you through our website, EC

dates like this one. With fund‐
ing, we can make the digital
Narrator readable on smart‐
phones, which it isn't right now.
SUMMER RESOURCE
GUIDE UPCOMING
In the meantime, while we look
for funds, you can look for a
free summer resource guide for
East Cleveland families. It will
be packed with fun, interesting,
useful and educational summer
activities and information for
families and young people. he
guide will be available in print
at City Hall, throughout the
city, and in a Narrator digital
update.
East Cleveland MyCom is
putting together the guide. My‐
Com is a network of organiza‐
tions that provide out-of-school
activities for young people.
CLE BLACK (OR NOT),
FOREST HILL PARK HIKE
To change subjects, I started a
new Meetup.com group called
CLE Black (Or Not). CLEBoN
for short. Meetup lets anyone
start groups that do whatever
activities group members like.
CLEBoN came about because I
got tired of being stuck at
home. I wanted to go dancing,
bicycling, walking and go on
adventures--but not always
alone. So I joined meetups and
started doing activities with
new friends I made.
When I saw I was usually the
only black person showing up, I
created CLEBoN. It's a group
that invites blacks and everyone
to hang out, have fun and net‐
work together.
Some of our meetups have been
in Forest Hill Park. hey've al‐
lowed people who know little
about our community to dis‐
cover one of East Cleveland's
beautiful treasures.
CLEBoN has a hike and guided
tour at the park Saturday May
30 at 9:45. We'll meet at the
Cleveland
Heights
entrance--2370 Lee Road--near
the intersection of Lee Road
and Monticello Boulevard. Big
thanks to Elsa Johnson of the
Forest Hill Park Association for
agreeing to guide us.
CLEBoN members can do
whatever activities they put on
