Joyce Douglas has been involved with Autism Connection of PA for the past 19 years. Beginning as a volunteer in 1997, continuing on in various positions on the board of directors, serving as Director of Programs and Planning and back as a volunteer whenever she is needed. When registration opened for the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, the choice of which nonprofit to captain a team for was simple, "I appreciate the continued help and support throughout my daughter's life". Joyce continued, "Other needed organizations come and go, but Autism Connection stays. Just about everyone knows someone who has a family member with autism. This organization is one of the few 'lifetime support systems' available". This year, her employer, Pediatric Alliance, is participating as a first time walk team. "I was actually asked to chair this walk by another manager at Pediatric Alliance. She does not have a child wth auism, but has referred patients to Autism Connetion. She also knew I spoke highly of Autism Connection and thought I might want to lead a team. I immediately said yes!". Joyce says she is being "optimistic" for their first year, and setting a team goal of 100 walkers and $20,000.
