Growing up in Gilroy , Greg played soccer . His coach was our current Mayor , Al Pinheiro . Al started the first soccer team in Gilroy in 1968-9 and served as the President of the Gilroy Blazers .

At age 19 , Greg decided to abandon hanging out with friends at the Amphitheater in favor of working with Bert Berry ( l ) and Chris Sullivan ( r ) at Hospitality marking the beginning of his official involvement in the Festival .

During a trip to Kyoto in the Fall of 1999 , Greg met Lora , his wife .
Together Lora and Greg visited Takko Machi and Greg played Santa for the children .
