TOP 10 TALLEST

BUILDINGS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Not so long ago western nations, primarily the United States, were battling to reach the skies for the tallest building in the world. The title for tallest building in the world was held by the United States from 1908 until 1998 when the Sears Tower, now the Willis Tower, was superseded by the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Since then, the continent of Asia has held the title and it looks to remain that way for the foreseeable future.

The Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, UAE, has held the title since 2010 standing at a whopping 828 metres (2,717 feet). The Burj Khalifa's distinction for tallest building will only last until 2021, when Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia is finally topped-off. Jeddah Tower will stand at 1,000 metres (3,281 feet) - the first building to reach 1km in height - a feat once thought impossible.

Six of the buildings listed in Top 10 Tallest Buildings Under Construction are in China and nine out of ten are in Asia - with the 10th place holder being in the United States. Unsurprisingly, none are in Europe - the tallest building in Europe is currently the Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg, Russia standing at 462 metres. And in the UK, the tallest remains the Shard at 310m.
