City-wide Bench Plaque Program

A tribute to someone or something that makes Gilroy a better place

One of nine new plaques installed on March 25 , 2013 .

Big digital pictures are made with small dots , pixels actually . The City of Gilroy Public Art Committee is taking this approach to bring more art to the City of Gilroy .

Currently there are some 31 public benches around the Library and in the Downtown . The Public Art Committee , an advisory group to the Arts & Culture Commission of the City of Gilroy , is seeking sponsors for each bench . The Public Art Committee is the group that spearheaded the campaign to install three bronze statues in the Downtown . Current members of the City Public Art Committee are : Dave Dunkle ( Chair ), Judy Bozzo ( Vice-Chair ), Trudie Conrotto , Karen Aitken- Bernosky , and Lisa Faria .
Several people have already stepped forward and sponsored a plaque that seeks to “ Honor ,” “ Memorialize ” or “ Recognize ” someone or a group . All profits from this project go to support local public art projects .
On March 25 , 2013 , city workers began installing nine new plaques . The plaques are made of durable zinc bronze finish , 2 ” by 10 ”, have a maximum of four lines of copy with letters and spaces of 56 per line , and the donation is $ 550 .
These small plaques are a start on any one of a number of bigger art projects around town . Each plaque is different but each is a tribute to someone or something that makes Gilroy a better place .
