he iPhone X officially launched on the 3rd of November and it’s one of most hyped product launches of the year –

also likely the most hyped iPhone launch since the original iPhone in 2007. Preorders for the device went live on October 27th with shipping estimates slipping to 5-6 weeks within minutes of release. Rumours of production delays have made the iPhone X a hot commodity and availability is said to be scarce into the New Year. Announced in September, the iPhone X is a big change for the iPhone lineup - Apple says it’s a complete reimagining of what the iPhone should be. Launched alongside the iPhone X were the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus and enthusiasm was expectedly subdued for the devices with the newly redesigned iPhone on the horizon. The iPhone X does away with the home button, which has been a staple of the iPhone design since its launch in 2007. During the announcement the CEO, Tim Cook, said the iPhone X will set the path of technology for the next decade. Apple wants it to be the beginning of a new generation of iPhones.

The most prominent new feature in the iPhone X is the 5.8-inch Samsung-manufactured OLED display, which is custom designed for the iPhone X. As a result of being the manufacturer for one of the most important components of the device, Samsung stands to benefit from the success of the iPhone X - more than 10% of the iPhone's retail price going to Samsung's bottom line.
