Becky Smith’s eyes are all
aglow with the realized vision of
her new shop, Twin Rivers Winery
and Gourmet Shoppe at 627 Commercial St.
The shop has been open just
over a week. Twin Rivers’ debut was greeted with some lessthan-stellar icy weather over the
Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
“But we still had a steady
crowd,” Smith said. “People who
weren’t quite sure what we were,
and they walked in, and they say
‘Wow! Now I get it’ and ‘This is so
fun’ and so when they find something that we don’t have and come
in to suggest it, it’s wonderful.
“We want this to be a community place,” Smith emphasized.
“Where ‘I could not get this anywhere in town’ and now, you have

tall, tinned ceilings, two grand
staircases, hardwood floors and
“We want to get the
really unusual cheese
that you don’t normally
see at Dillons or Price
Chopper. We don’t want
to take away from what
they offer. We want
to add to them.”

a long bar backed with mirrored
cabinets.
A family heirloom piano stands
to the left of the entrance, where
the occasional musician may turn
up and provide ambience. The second floor is almost finished as an
entertainment venue, and Smith is
booking the space now.

“Greg Jordan will be up next,”
Smith said. “And then probably
Matt Fowler if not our winemaker
Justin Ogleby. (It’s) all photography, because we’re just starting
with the people we know, and then
we’ll want to start branching out,
working with the art departments
(in town).”
Becky Mishler is thrilled to be
involved.
