Saint Martin’s is ranked sixth and
Western Washington is ranked 10th in the inaugural NCAA
Division II West Regional softball poll of the 2015 season.
LAST WEEK: Monday – Simon Fraser 6-2 at Saint Martin’s
10-8. Wednesday - Western Washington 9-6 at Simon
Fraser 3-1. Friday – MSU Billings 10-11 at Northwest
Nazarene 1-4. Saturday – MSU Billings 13-21 at Northwest
Nazarene 7-6; Saint Martin’s 15-10 at Simon Fraser 3-4;
Western Oregon 5-8 at Western Washington 9-5. Sunday –
Saint Martin’s 4-1 at Western Washington 5-4; Western
Oregon 21-5 at Simon Fraser 4-4.
The poll will eventually determine which five at-large
teams join the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA champions in the
eight-team regional tournament in May.
If the three conference champions all wind up in the top
eight in the final poll, the top eight teams will advance to
the regional tournament, which will be divided into two
four-team sub-regionals.
THIS WEEK: Friday – Saint Martin’s at Western Oregon, 2
p.m.; Great Falls at MSU Billings, 1 p.m. Saturday – Central
Washington at Saint Martin’s, 1 p.m.; Great Falls at MSU
Billings, 1 p.m. Sunday – Central Washington at Western
Oregon, noon.
Dixie State, which is the defending West Regional
champion, is the No. 1 ranked team in the inaugural poll
followed by Cal State Monterey Bay, Humboldt State,
Sonoma State and Cal Baptist.
NEXT WEEK: Friday (April 24) – Western Washington at
Central Washington, 1 p.m.; Western Oregon at MSU
Billings, 1 p.m.; Saint Martin’s at Northwest Nazarene, 2
p.m. Saturday (April 25) – Western Oregon at MSU
Billings, noon; Saint Martin’s at Northwest Nazarene,
noon; Simon Fraser at Western Washington, noon. Sunday
(April 26) – Simon Fraser at Central Washington, 1 p.m.
GNAC Tournament: April 30, May 1-2.
Saint Martin’s (32-16, 12-4), which hosts defending GNAC
champion Western Oregon (18-23, 10-6) Friday and
Central Washington (18-17, 9-7) Saturday, currently has a
1 ½ game lead over Western Washington (24-16, 13-7) and
Montana State Billings (23-18, 13-7) in the GNAC race.
Western Oregon is in fourth place, two games back of the
Saints and one game ahead of fifth-place Central
Washington as five teams compete for the GNAC’s four
berths in the conference tournament which will be played
April 30-May 2 at Yakima, Wash.
