Spotlight on OCA Accomplishments: A Look Back As We Move Forward We are thrilled to share recent OCA achievements that impact you and your practice as the profession moves forward. Advocating For You The OCA works to promote the interests of the profession and integrate chiropractic into the broader health care system. Here’s a look at how we have been actively furthering your advancement. Making progress We secured support from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to grant chiropractors authority to order laboratory tests and diagnostic ultrasound. Solution inclusion New provincial opioid guidelines and quality standards recommend manual therapies, such as SMT as first-line treatments for acute and chronic pain instead of opioids. New opportunities We advocated with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and each Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) for chiropractors to be an integral part of the rollout of the Rapid Access Clinics (which build on ISAECs and hip and knee CIACs). 6 SPRING 2018 By popular demand Our Community Engagement & Leadership Program had an approximate 20% increase in participation since last year. We’ve got your back The OCA supported chiropractors in developing poster submissions and presentations. Members and our fraternal partners received the Association of Family Health Teams Ontario’s Bright Lights Awards and Health Quality Ontario’s Abstract of Distinction Award. The host with the most! Our Advocacy Day at Queen’s Park had a record- breaking 20+ meetings with MPPs, followed by ten additional MPP meetings in their ridings.
