MO Shop Earns Bronze Level Certification
In May, Colas Inc. executives Jon Hager (Plants and Equipment) and Chris Kirby (Safety, Environmental,
and Risk Management) performed the final inspections at the Cape Girardeau Shop for certification. Delta
takes great pride to announce that the Missouri Shop earned the coveted Colas 6S Shop Certification –
Bronze Level. Only five (now six) of the fifty-two shops throughout Colas Inc. have earned this recognition.
Tony Shafer (Shop Manager) and his team have worked diligently toward the 6S of Safety, Sort, Straighten,
Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.
“The Lean Effort in within COLAS US Asset Management - Plants and Equipment, began over three years
ago,” explained Michel Roure (Vice President – Plants and Equipment), “It involves everybody – we looked
at our shops several years ago and asked ‘How can we be better?’ Through CPI implementation – with team
members from Plants/Equipment, CPI, Safety and Environmental, guidelines and criteria were established
to certify our Shops with a focus on Lean and 6S. At first, we heard ‘It can’t be done.’ That makes me smile
today.
“Our employees have embraced the process and their outstanding efforts speak for themselves,” comments
Roure, “They are excited to see that clean-up is possible – these shops are so orderly, that you will notice
if a pebble is out of place in one of these certified shops. The process promotes cleanliness, efficiency,
retention of good people, systematic organization and smooth logistics. I am happy about our success and
I am proud of it.”
The Shop Team consisting of Daniel Feezor, Tom Burnett, Sr., Gary McIntyre, Dillion Aylor, Gary Zweigart,
and Kevin Keene implemented the following initiatives which they titled Our Plan of Attack:
• Obsolete parts (Sort)
• Overstock/Left over parts (Sort)
• Prioritize Inventory (Sort)
• Maximize space available (Straighten)
• Clean and Repair facility (Sweep/Shine)
• Process flow of work (Sustain)
• Establish Safety/environmental standards (Safety)
• Develop a Safety Culture Safety/environmenta
stewardship (Safety)
Congratulations to the Missouri Shop!
