Welcome the Fall Season Vacation!”
– By Marianne Vogel
Autumn brings all kinds of unique festivals and events Hewitt’s for some delicious homemade ice cream. Port Dover
into the area, that allow people to take some time away from
that stuffy apartment and give them a breath of country air.
There are many opportunities to do some more fun things
before the snow flies!
There are many fall fairs you can go this fall, but make sure
you bring cash when you go and plan on staying the day. There
is so much to see and do at these fairs – you can just travel
the fair circuit if you want, Sept 12 to 14th, in Binbrook,
a thriving town south of Hamilton www.binbrookfair.org
The Ancaster Fair follows on September 18 to 21st – another
great place to go, starting on the Friday night with an ever
popular Demo Derby. Come an enjoy a bit of the countryside

not only offers beautiful summer greenery, and events, a sandy
beach and friendly people, but the wonderful fall foliage as
well as unique river cruising – all summer and into October.
Normada Charters offer one hour sightseeing tours down
Lynn Valley River and
into Black Creek Nature
Reserve. They have two
River Rider boats with
a capacity of up to 68
people. During the
tour they will provide
commentary, history on
the points of interest along the way, and music. The cruise
line also offers 90 minute sightseeing tours aboard Kayloe – a
65 Foot vessel with capacity of 70 people. There is a licensed
bar and washrooms aboard. As an extra, they also offer light
catering for this cruise. www.normadacharters.com
Just south of Brantford and
in the beautiful countryside,
you can visit Whistling
Gardens in Wilsonville,
to see Canada’s newest
Botanical Gardens www.
whistlinggardens.ca You
can easily take a bus tour
trip there on Oct 2nd from
Hamilton, with over 18 acres
to see and a gorgeous water
fountain show is set to music.
That same weekend, the St. George Applefest is on (Sept
20 & 21st) with 120 vendors, bake sales and craft sales,
and a fantastic street party
on the Saturday night

Then of course there
is the famous Rockton
Wo r l d ’s Fa i r o n
Thanksgiving weekend
(Oct 10 to 13th), my most favourite Fair in the fall, and
many days you will see volunteers, such as myself, manning
various ticket booths at the front entrance and welcoming
visitors to the best show on earth (in my opinion) where
city meets the country. Come and see live dairy & sheep
shows, heavy horse competitions in the main ring, various
equestrian events, the agriculture demonstrations, the baby
show, home craft demonstrations, antique tractor shows,
and poultry competitions, with the ultimate favourite,
being the Demo Derby! So come out, take the city bus
to Rockton and enjoy the fair. It’s closer than you think!

There is also something always happening in Port Dover –
you don’t have to ride a motorcycle to enjoy the wonderful
little shops, eateries and of course on the way home, stop at

All the local farmer’s markets including Josmar Acres have
fresh, locally grown produce, fruits and vegetables including
apples, peaches,
pears, tomatoes
and beans,
and fresh farm
eggs. There is
nothing quite
like fruits and
veggies in season!
Just check it out and let them do the gardening for you!
www.josmaracres.com You can also follow them on Facebook,
as they are always sending out new images of fresh produce
and fruits and believe me, when they post their photos on
face book, it is right off the stand in the store or off the vine/
tree or plant, in their fields! Talk about fresh!
