POKER phenomenon

Chris Moorman

EXCLUSIVE

By LAURIE STONE Editor-at-large

POKER phenomenon Chris Moorman started playing the great game of Texas Hold 'Em online while studying Economics at the University of Essex ten years ago - fast-forward to present day and he is the king of poker having won a staggering $14million online and more than $5.1million playing at live tournaments in card rooms around the globe.

It is an incredible achievement for the former cricket-mad student who was so concerned about telling his hard-working parents, Sonya and Simon, about his exciting new interest that was earning him much-needed pocket money he told them a little white lie.

The 31-year-old explained: "Mum would have gone mad if she had known what I was doing. But I was starting to win some money playing online and so I was able to cover my tracks by saying I had a job stacking shelves in a supermarket near the university campus in Colchester, Essex.

"In reality my friend and I  were playing poker online and watching the best Ashes series ever. When you start playing every day you get better and by the end of the summer, I had gone from having a couple of hundred dollars in my online account to having a bank roll of five thousand dollars."
