Thank you
one and all
As we move forward into a process of recovery from the
Whakaari/White Island eruption, we wanted to take this
opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you on behalf of everyone
at Whakatāne Hospital and more broadly the Bay of Plenty
District Health Board.
We want to thank each and every person who supported us in
whatever form that took, however big or small the gesture, and
whether that support was as an individual or part of a larger
community group or organisation. The response from the wider
Whakatāne community and beyond has been overwhelming.
The countless acts of kindness, generosity, aroha and support
shown, in particular to our Whakatāne Hospital staff, have
provided a heart-warming counter to a tragic event and are
deeply appreciated.
Thank you on behalf of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.

On 20 December 2019, Bay of Plenty Emergency Management
Group commenced the Whakaari Recovery Project, coordinating
effort and processes to bring about immediate, medium-term
and longer-term holistic regeneration and enhancement of the
affected communities, in the wake of the 9 December eruption.
The Whakaari Recovery Project involves more than 15 partner
agencies and support organisations, looking at activities
across three ‘environments’ - social, economic, and natural.
The Bay of Plenty District Health Board is one of those
partner agencies, providing the coordination of psycho-social
services to those who have been impacted by the event.
