Cooling System Layup Season is Here : Hop to It with Cortec ’ s Cooling Tower Frog ® !
With fall and winter on their way in many parts of the world , maintenance engineers will soon be thinking about shutting down cooling systems for the season . Since winter often brings subzero temperatures , this means water treatment professionals often must drain the water to prevent freezing . However , standard operating procedures often call for little else to protect against the insidious corrosion that can lead to other problems and shortened equipment service life down the road . In light of these facts , now is an excellent time to stock up on Cortec ’ s Cooling Tower Frog ® for simple , effective corrosion protection during dry layup of cooling systems this coming fall and winter .
Cooling Tower Frog ® provides an added layer of corrosion protection without much extra effort required . Although specifically designed for seasonal , short-term , or longterm dry layup of cooling tower systems , Cooling Tower Frog ® can also be used for protection of closed loops , as noted in Cortec ’ s handy updated product line guide to cooling water layup .* Cooling Tower Frog ® presents an extremely efficient method of protecting multi-metals in enclosed spaces through the use of Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitors packaged in polyvinyl-alcohol ( PVA ) water-soluble bags . When these bags are slit open , the corrosion inhibitors vaporize and disperse throughout the enclosed system , forming a strong , self-replenishing protective molecular layer on all metal surfaces , including recessed areas and interior cavities .
Cooling Tower Frog ® is extremely easy to apply , reduces chemical consumption and cost , and avoids direct worker contact with chemicals . Little or no surface preparation is necessary . After the cooling tower or closed loop has been drained according to normal layup procedures , workers simply have to throw away the outer barrier bags , slit open the water-soluble bags , and place them flat inside the equipment , making sure all internal spaces are closed off from the outside atmosphere . Two bags treat over 1,000 gallons ( 3,800 L or 3.8 m ³) of enclosed space . At the end of layup , the Cooling Tower Frog ® does not have to be removed . It simply dissolves in the makeup water as the system refills .
The greatest benefit of the Cooling Tower Frog ® is the opportunity to avoid corrosion problems from clogging , leakage , or system failures that could otherwise increase downtime and repair costs . The next best aspect is that this can be done with very little deviation from the normal maintenance routine . This season , “ hop to it ” to make sure your water treatment customers are well supplied with an excellent solution to corrosion in laid up cooling systems !
