Lifestyle Guidelines

Lifestyle Guidelines ( Adopted by CCS & MCN Boards in January / February 2024 ) The school ’ s Lifestyle Guidelines reflect the mission of The Cornerstone Christian School , the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene , the school ’ s Statement of Faith , and the collective wisdom of the conservative evangelical churches that are a part of the school ’ s constituency . The premise of Cornerstone ’ s lifestyle guidelines is to exemplify such personal , moral , and religious conduct as shall be above reproach . This lifestyle premise is for all faculty , staff and administrative personnel on our campus . This lifestyle premise also provides the rationale for modeling , instructing , and upholding desirable behavior and attitudes for all of our constituencies .
Background We , as a Christian community , commit ourselves to the admonition of the Apostle Paul that we build our community up in love for each other . We will actively endeavor to be supportive and caring for each other in spite of whatever differences may develop concerning the operation of the school . While honest differences may exist and be vigorously debated , the school will not condone personal attacks on other members of the community .
Prohibited Lifestyle Practices To be in accord with the purposes , doctrines , standards and spirit of the Cornerstone Christian School , our lifestyle practices prohibit : engaging in sexual acts outside of Christian marriage as defined by the Church of the Nazarene ; the use of pornography ; any acts of abuse , bullying or harassment ; the use of profanity ; gambling ; theft ; dishonesty ; using tobacco in any form ; vaping ; participation in the occult ; and any other behavior that is detrimental to authentic Christian community and the maintenance of an atmosphere conducive to abundant life .
The school prohibits the possession , use , distribution or manufacture of illegal drugs and recreational marijuana , vaping , and the misuse of prescription drugs .
Stance on Alcohol Our lifestyle practices prohibit students from all uses of alcoholic beverages .
Regarding school employees , the historic understanding of The Cornerstone Christian School and the Church of the Nazarene , with respect to alcohol , is that abstinence best reflects our commitments to Christ , our community , and holy living . This position is rooted in our acknowledgement of the destructive consequences in individuals , families , and communities that can stem from the use of alcohol ; it demonstrates our commitment to standing in solidarity with those who have suffered from these consequences . As a result , it continues to be our strong preference that all employees abstain from the use of alcoholic beverages . However , we respect the fact that our employees come from a variety of denominational backgrounds that may not share this commitment to abstinence . Our expectation , therefore , is that all CCS employees will abide by the behavioral commitments of their local church , will avoid drunkenness , and will under no circumstances possess , use , promote , or distribute alcoholic beverages on campus , at any school event , or in the presence of students .
Stance on Human Sexuality The Church of the Nazarene ( refer to the Church of the Nazarene Manual found at Nazarene . org / manual ) views human sexuality as one expression of the holiness and beauty that God the Creator intended . Because all humans are beings created in the image of God , they are of inestimable value and worth . As a result , we believe that human sexuality is meant to include more than the sensual experience , and is a gift of God designed to reflect the whole of our physical and relational createdness .
