Shelter Happenings

WELCOME BACK VOLUNTEERS !! We are so happy to see our volunteers back in the shelter and no one appreciates it more than our shelter animals ! Due to the limited capacity of people allowed in the shelter at one time , it is mandatory for all volunteers to sign up for a shift prior to coming to the shelter to volunteer . We also want to remind active and perspective volunteers , to check your emails frequently as this is the primary method of communication from staff , as well as the best way to hear updates directly associated with volunteering at the shelter . Online Orientations : Online orientations are now being offered for our volunteer and foster program ! We encourage anyone interested in joining to visit , www . arlingtontx . gov / animalvolunteer . Fear Free Sheltering : Fear Free Sheltering is a program developed to help shelters across the country create an environment for animals which eliminates fear , anxiety , and stress . It also strives to create an experience that is better and safer for all involved . Arlington Animal Services is proud to have it ' s staff members trained and certified on Fear Free Sheltering , and we encourage our volunteers as well as anyone in the public to watch the training and presentations . For pet owners , Fear Free Happy Homes provides information to help you learn ways to set your adopted pets up for success once they leave the shelter . The pet owners site has videos , articles and more , all available for free . Visit www . fearfreeshelters . com to learn more !

In Case You Missed It ...

AAS FOSTER PROGRAM EXPANSION June is National Foster a Pet Month and thanks to grants from Rachel Ray , partnered with Best Friends Animal Society , and Maddie ' s Fund , Arlington Animal Services has expanded our foster program which is now available for anyone to join online .
All supplies including food , crates , food bowls , and toys are given with each foster pet . Once approved , foster parents have the ability to pick and choose which pet ( s ) they bring into their homes . As a part of our foster program expansion , we are seeking foster homes for our adult dogs and cats , especially our long resident pets , and puppies and kittens who are too young to be placed up for adoption .
Allowing a pet to be in a home environment versus the shelter , not only creates more space in the shelter for other animals in need , seeing pictures of pets thrive in a foster home helps adopters visualize them in their own homes ! Visit www . arlingtontx . gov / animalvolunteer to sign up to be a foster today !
