AMHCA ’ s Virtual Fall Summit offers five days of topical presentations for clinical mental health counselors on the theme “ Promoting Healing for the Community , Clients , and Counselors .”
The Fall Summit will open with Brandon J . Johnson giving the keynote address on Monday , Nov . 1 , 11 a . m .– 12:15 p . m . EST . His topic is “ Suicide Prevention for the Black Community .”
An advocate for positive mental health and suicide prevention services for youth and adults across the country , Johnson is public health advisor at the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration ( SAMHSA ) in the Suicide Prevention Branch at the U . S . Department of Health and Human Services .

Licensure Counseling Compact Is the Focus of AMHCA ’ s Nov . 10 Town Hall
At the AMHCA Town Hall on Nov . 10 , at 7 p . m . ( EST ), join AMHCA President Dr . Beverly Smith and her special guest Dan Logsdon , director of the National Center for Interstate Compacts .
They ’ ll discuss how to ensure passage of the Counseling Compact . Each state must pass the Counseling Compact , which will ensure licensure portability . Georgia was the first to pass the Counseling Compact ( see the Member Reflections on page 2 ).
AMHCA is committed to the interstate Counseling Compact , because it will :
• Significantly increase public access to qualified care .
• Establish minimum standards for safe practice .
• Reduce administrative burdens for state regulatory boards and licensees .
• Create consistency in licensure standards across state lines .
