Chieftain Halloween 2018

BROTHER RICE V OLUME 58, I SSUE 4 Chieftain H ALLOWEEN I SSUE The Best Spooky Icons Hail all heroes On this holiday Why I Hate Halloween ‘No day is worse than Oct. 31’ Halloween is, without a doubt, the most overrated, overhyped joke of a holiday on the calendar. No day is worse than Oct. 31. Once October hits, I dread- fully count down the days until this absurd holiday is over. The people who think Halloween should be celebrated for the whole month of October are psy- chotic and should Cole never be trusted. The Gellatly person who came up with Halloween was defi nitely an overweight man who didn’t want to keep spending his own money on candy. My hatred for Halloween all started when I learned I was allergic to peanuts, which is basically in all the candies peo- ple give out. As a young lad, I would get so excited to go trick-or-treating, only to come home to fi nd out I could not eat a B R OTHE R R I C E H IG H S C H OO L C H I E F TA I N majority of the candy I worked so hard for. In tears, I would have to give my Reese’s or Snickers to my sister. Most people hated the people who gave out toothbrushes for Halloween, but I loved them. At least a toothbrush wouldn’t kill me. I’m starting to think that so many people loved trick-or-treat- ing with me because they knew I couldn’t eat most of the can- dy. These so called “friends” were only using me to get more candy. Halloween ruins friendships and makes kids like me look like chumps. It is so bad it’s mascot is a pumpkin. All the big hol- idays have a cool mascot: Christmas has Santa, Easter has a bunny, Thanksgiving has a turkey. Although we at the Chieftain aren’t real big into Halloween, as inferred from Cole’s article on the left, ranking some of the top spooky icons seemed like a good idea, so that’s exactly what we did. So, in no particular order ... The Great Pumpkin: An absolute Halloween icon. “The Great Pumpkin,” a Charlie Brown classic, is a staple for this holiday. Although it elicits no fear, unless you are afraid of pumpkins, The Great Pumpkin is so fi tting for the spooky time, as you will see many ordi- nary pumpkins outside of the common man’s home. If you don’t like the Great Pumpkin, then the Chieftain wants noth- ing to do with you. Michael Myers: It’d probably be disre- spectful to exclude someone who actu- ally stars in a movie series named after See SPOOKY on Page 2 H A L L O W E E N 2018
