October 22 October 22 is National Make a Dog ' s Day ! This day is observed as an opportunity to give all dogs the best day of their lives . This year Arlington Animal Services wants to treat our shelter full of homeless dogs waiting for their second chance . We are asking for donations of " Bully Sticks ", a safe , single ingredient treat for shelter dogs that will last long enough to provide extra kennel enrichment while in their kennel . At this time , on average , we are housing approximately 100 dogs in our shelter . Our hope is to have enough Bully Sticks to hand out on October 22 to ' Make a SHELTER Dog ' s Day !" Donate here !

October is also known as Dogtober or Adopt a Shelter Dog Month ! Arlington Animal Services is excited to team up with our friends at Best Friends Animal Society for the Love Large , Big Dog Adoption Campaign . " Our goal is to get more big dogs out of shelters and into homes this October ,” said Julie Castle , chief executive officer of Best Friends Animal Society . The “ Love Large ” adoption campaign is an opportunity to educate the public that big dogs can be part of almost any home , no matter the size .
