Airport Development Plan Update
Work on the Airport Development is progressing. The Development Plan study has the
land use planning components of a Master Plan, but forecasts facility needs, etc. for ten
years instead of the twenty-year horizon used for Master Plans. The scope also allows
for a broader range of planning services. Drafts of the first three chapters, Analysis Of
Existing Conditions, Aviation Demand Forecasts, and Facility Requirements are availa-
ble online for viewing here http://www.arlington-tx.gov/airport/airport-development-

Consultants are now working to develop alternatives to meet the future facility needs,
and analyze the financial requirements for future improvements. The Plan will also
provide:
An environmental evaluation, including a noise contour study, and
An Airport Layout Plan - the set of drawings, approved by the FAA, that form the
basis for federal and state grant funding of Airport construction projects

Rick Stout’s Retirement

be retiring December 31st,
after 34 years with the City.

Hangar Inspections
In addition to the Development Plan, updates to Airport governance documents, includ-
ing the Airport Rules and Regulations and the Minimum Standards for Commercial Aero-
nautical Activities are also underway. Drafts of those documents will be available in the
future.
The next Plan Advisory Committee meeting will be held in January, in conjunction with
the first public workshop. The development alternatives are scheduled to be online in
early January, and comments will be accepted from any interested party.

Dumpster Issues
Inclement Weather Preparations at GKY
We all remember the ice storm that struck last December, and the resulting cobble-
stone ice that was a nightmare to drive over. GKY remained open, through round-the-
clock efforts of Operations staff, but we noted some improvements needed in our
response. Please remember airport
dumpsters are for refuse
generated at the Airport,
and not intended for home/
yard refuse.
This year, in anticipation of icy weather, Bruce Hollander, Assistant Airport Manager,
procured equipment that will allow the airport to make brine, a salt water solution.
Brine prevents the ice from adhering to paved surfaces and works best when applied
and allowed to dry before the storm strikes. Operations will spray the drives one or
two days before an approaching winter storm. Trash should be placed in-
side the dumpster, not to
the side of it, and at no time
should be placed in the
waste oil area.
The Airport has also purchased an additional snow plow attachment. This second plow
will increase our ability to keep the runway and taxiways open during winter storms. If you have a large amount
