Bruno Mars

I think it’s about time to feature the one and only Bruno Mars, you know, since he’s back again (“24K Magic” reference, just in case you didn’t pick up).

Peter Gene Hernandez, professionally known as Bruno Mars was born on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. ‘Bruno’ came from a childhood nickname when his dad thought his son resembled professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. ‘Mars’ from his quote “…a lot of girls say I’m out of this world, so I was like I guess I’m from Mars,”

Growing up in a musical family, he was introduced to many genres at a young age. He was known around his island as the four-year-old Elvis Presley impersonator. He moved to Los Angeles post-high school in hopes to launch a music career. In 2009, he was signed by Atlantic records. Here, he co-founded the production team The Smeezingtons which is responsible for singles “Nothing on You” by B.o.B. and “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy. Following those was his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans in 2010. 2012 brought his second studio album called Unorthodox Jukebox.

To date, he has sold over 100 million singles and albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has won four Grammys. He has landed six number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, attaining his first five faster than any male artist since, coincidentally, Elvis Presley. Makes sense why people describe him as out of this world.
