COVINGTON FUZZ RUN

et ready to run (or walk)
where the stars walk during
the Covington Fuzz Run on
September 9, 2017. The 34th annual
Fuzz Run includes a 5K race, 1-mile
fun run/walk, and Mary Beth’s Bird
Run (Dash). Hosted by the Covington
Police Department, the Fuzz Run 5K
race is one of the largest participatory
events in Covington, with over 3,500
participants anticipated this year.
With Covington being dubbed The
Hollywood of the South®, you’ll
quickly know why everyone wants
to participate in the Fuzz Run 5K.
The course goes through Historic
Downtown Covington, along gentle
hills, and past beautiful homes and
businesses that were used in popular
film and TV productions. As you run or
walk, you’ll pass familiar sights from

harles Walker
will always be
remembered in
the Conyers-Rockdale
community. Born Charles
Carlton Walker, he lived
from May 14, 1934 to
June 2, 2017. He was 83
when he died. The former
Mayor of Conyers and a
leader in the community,
he was well known and
respected. Through his many
accomplishments, he left a
legacy.
“Charles Walker was an
outstanding leader as Mayor
of Conyers for many years.
He was a kind and caring
man with a personality that
encouraged people to work
together for the common
good. He was an asset to this
community to the very end
of his life. He will be greatly
missed,” said Lorraine
Harrison, Vice President of
Alcovy Media.
Charles Walker was the
Mayor of Conyers from
1978 to 1998. He also was
the President and CEO of
Walco Packaging Co. from
1977 to 2000. He had many
accomplishments during
his years as mayor and as
a business leader in the
community. One success

Rockdale County
Public Schools (RCPS)
and six students from the
Newton County School System
(NCSS) are participating in
a new Industrial Mechanic
apprenticeship program. This
is a program under the Georgia
Consortium for Advanced
Technical Training (GA
CATT) program and it is the
first apprenticeship program
of its kind for high school
students in the United States.
Lt. Governor Casey Cagle
hosted a signing ceremony
for the GA CATT Program on
August 14, 2017, at the state
Capitol. During the ceremony,
Georgia manufacturing
companies signed their
apprenticeship acceptance
letter with the incoming high
school sophomores, who
committed to the three-year
apprenticeship program. The
ceremony placed emphasis on
the importance of workforce
development through GA
CATT.
The German Apprenticeship
program is a dual vocational
training program where
students earn high
school diploma, German
apprenticeship certificate and
diploma or associate degree in
