Cottonwood Connections October 2023

October 2023

District Director Notes - Jay Harris

In a few weeks the agents of the Cottonwood District will be attending the 2023 K-State Research and Extension Annual Conference. It will be held October 24-26, 2023 at the K-State Student Union in Manhattan, KS. Annual Conference is an opportunity for extension staff from across the state to collaborate with each other, focus on core competencies, build relationships through networking, and to recognize peers for their accomplishments. The theme for this year’s Annual Conference is "Game on - Building the Engaged Land Grant of the Future".

This event aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange among attendees as we explore K-State Research and Extension’s role in supporting the university’s vision for leading the nation as a next-generation land-grant university. Some of the highlights will include a State and Regional Extension Professionals Networking Breakfast and a presentation on Building the Engaged Land Grant of the Future, featuring Dr. Marshall Stewart, Senior Vice President for Executive Affairs, University Engagement, and Partnerships, Kansas State University; Dr. Ernie Minton, Dean of College of Agriculture, Kansas State University and Dr. Gregg Hadley, Associate Professor and Director of Extension, Kansas State University. There will also be sessions offering professional development for each agent in the discipline in which they work.

If you attended KSU in the College of Agriculture or had much involvement with KSU in the past, you probably had class with or have heard of Barry Flinchbaugh. Dr. Flinchbaugh passed away a few years ago and it is always good to look back at the impact that he had on Kansas State University. I remember taking his class and enjoying the stories that he told. Take some time and go to this website and learn more about Dr. Flinchbaugh:  https://www.k-state.com/news/flinchbaugh.php.
