The Olde Town Christmas Party takes place on Friday, Dec. 1 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Residents can enjoy free visits and photos (packages available and printed on-site) with Santa in the Conyers Depot/Conyers Welcome Center at 901 Railroad St. In a new location this year, the Olde Town Conyers Merchant Association hosts a Secret Santa Shop in the Depot Warehouse for children. Winners announced on eMetroTimes.com/photocontest T he Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) announced today that Newton County School System superintendent, Samantha Fuhrey, is one of four finalists for 2018 Georgia Superintendent of the Year. According to John Zauner, executive director of GSSA, 20 nominations were submitted for this year’s competition. In addition to Fuhrey, Dr. Steve Barker, superintendent of Coweta County Schools; Dr. Michael Duncan, superintendent of Pike County Schools; and Wes Taylor, superintendent of Lowndes County Schools, were also named finalists. “Each have been singled out for their leadership abilities and their excellent skill set in working with their boards, staff, and local communities,” said Zauner. “Having outstanding communication skills seems to be a theme amongst this distinguished group of experienced educational leaders. They all face challenges and do so with high integrity and dynamic and supportive leadership styles. They have risen to the top of their profession for Continued on page 2... M any veterans will be observing Veteran’s Day on Saturday, November 11 during the annual ceremony at the Walk of Heroes Veterans Memorial Park. Immediately following, there will be a “Flag Retirement Ceremony” by the Boy Scouts of America. The Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial was created to facilitate an understanding of the many sacrifices and undying commitment veterans and their families have given through the years towards the transition to freedom and in the fight to protect that freedom. “This Memorial honors the service and sacrifice of our military, veterans and their families, from January 1, 1900 and through today,” said Tommy Clack, President/ Chairman of the Board for Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial. The Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial sits on three acres along the shore of Lake Randy Poynter. Within the grounds are $2.8 million of completed sites, and more monuments in the making.
