Recognitions
Roosevelt Middle School students win big at the State Fair
Greg Blodgett, principal at Roosevelt Middle School, along with Dan Lundborg, Industrial Technology teacher, presented
former students Aaron Moore and Kenna Lancaster who earned high honors for custom laser engraved wood stools in the
Minnesota State Fair competition. Moore received a first place ribbon, while Lancaster received a Sweepstakes ribbon,
the highest honor given. Both students are now freshmen at Blaine High School.
NAMI Minnesota’s Professional of the Year
Dr. Eric Melbye, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services, presented Dr. Nita Kumar, mental
health consultant, for being selected as NAMI’s (National Alliance of Mental Illness) Professional of the Year Award
recipient for the State of Minnesota. NAMI presents this award to an individual who encourages early identification and
treatment of children struggling with a mental illness, provides high quality services, exemplifies best practices, and
demonstrates commitment to and leadership in the field of mental health.
National Parent Involvement Day
Tom Heidemann, School Board chair, noted that Nov.17 is National Parent Involvement Day, a time to recognize the impact
that parent volunteers make to strengthen and support education in our nation. Heidemann also noted the work of the
district’s high-quality parent involvement department and motivated parents/guardians and families for their dedication
and contribution toward helping Anoka-Hennepin students succeed. During the 2018-19 school year, a total of 11,233
volunteers provided over 194,997 hours of service to support student success in Anoka-Hennepin.
Minnesota Superintendent of the Year
Tom Heidemann, School Board Chair, recognized David Law, Anoka-Hennepin School District Superintendent, for
being named Minnesota Superintendent of the Year by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA).
Superintendent Law is the first Anoka-Hennepin superintendent to receive the honor.

The School Board did not receive any testimony from the community.
Elementary and secondary education
World’s Best Workforce and Achievement and Integration Annual Public Meeting
The Dr. Johnna Rohmer-Hirt, director of research, evaluation and testing, led a comprehensive overview of the district’s
efforts to meet the goals of Minnesota’s Best Workforce plan. The plan measures performance in achieving school
readiness, reading well by third grade, closing achievement gaps, career and college readiness, and improving student
graduation rates. The presentation also included key data points from achievement and integration programming and
how they support the overall achievement goals for all district students. Anoka-Hennepin remains diligent in striving
for continuous improvement in racial and economic integration, student academic achievement, equitable educational
opportunities and the reduction of academic disparities based on student diversity.
Districtwide Credit Recovery and Summer School Participation
Nancy Chave, principal of Anoka-Hennepin Regional and Anoka-Hennepin Technical hHigh schools, led a presentation
that outlined programs the district has in place to assist students with credit recovery and ensure their path to graduation. 1
