As Group Vice President of Macy ’ s Fashion Office and nearly thirty-year veteran of the department store , Guion ’ s expertise in trend forecasting and styling is second to none . He let us in on emerging trends and tips for a bold and personalized wedding day look .

How has groom style changed over the years ? Are we moving away from the traditional tuxedo and if so , what is taking its place ?
Groom style has become less formal , less stiff . The classic tuxedo in many cases has been replaced by a slim gray or navy suit — sometimes vested . Summer and destination weddings are all about linens in neutral colors — sometimes just a great white linen shirt and drawstring pants are the best bet .
Are there any specific 2020 / 2021 trends you ’ re seeing with groom ensembles ?
I think grooms are starting to add a bit more of their personal style into ensembles for both themselves and their groomsmen . We are seeing seersucker coming back as key fabric . Subtle plaids look interesting and I still like the trend of novelty boxers and matching socks worn underneath for a bit of fun .
What are some tips you have for grooms looking to bring their individual style into their wedding attire ? Are there subtle ways to make a statement when their partner prefers more of a traditional look for the wedding ?
It is a compromise of course , but consider the environment , anticipated weather , time of day , etc . ... then put together looks that make sense , feel personal , but still align with the vision / aesthetic the couple has in mind for their special day . I do believe the groom should
