You pay your electric bill every month, but what exactly are you paying for? It turns out, quite a lot. Here’s what you can do with just a single dollar’s worth of electricity. Light a 60-watt equivalent LED bulb for 100 nights. Warm up 940 slices of pizza in a microwave. Open and close your garage door 2,370 times. Charge your phone 650 times. Run a vacuum for 6 hours. Watch TV for 47 hours. As you can see, you get a lot for your energy dollar! Looking to stretch those dollars even further? Here are some quick tips: • Install LED bulbs throughout your home. They use 75 percent less energy than standard bulbs and last much longer. • Heat small portions in the microwave whenever possible; it’s much more efficient than firing up the range. • Buy the right appliances. For example, you’ll spend less money running a standard dishwasher less often than running a compact model more often. • Adjust room temperatures to save energy when you’re not at home. Web-enabled thermostats optimize savings and add convenience. Get more tips like this © Questline Inc. content when you subscribe to LES’ em.Powered eNewsletter at LES.com.
