PROJECTVIEW
BLOUVIN , SOMERSET WEST
SLT Architect ’ s latest project is a mixed-use redevelopment of an existing two storey corner building which can be found on the very busy Main road in Somerset-West . Consisting of retail spaces on the ground floor and an abandoned residential first floor , the new owners found it crucial to create a bold sense of transformation , aiding the upliftment of the immediate surrounding area and setting a precedent for neighbouring retailers . The ground floor tenants are well known by locals and will receive a brand-new modern makeover with increased glazing and the use of stark aluminium cladding on streetscape walls . The first storey residential is the biggest renovation to this building with the entire layout being reworked . This component of the building extends to the new second floor which is carefully engineered and designed with lightweight concrete walls and the use of steel clad externals . Crisp white walls with delicate penetrations form a near seamless horizontal flow to the existing structure , with the new top floor almost disappearing in contrast . Overall , the building creates a fresh approach to the existing architectural language in the area , while still maintaining the integrity of the historical aspect of existing buildings .
