“Shop. Connect. Inspire.” That’s the mantra of Fashion Fest, which just wrapped up their 3rd annual event at the Edmonton Expo Center on June 21-22. The exhibit brings together all facets of the Fashion industry. This provides a valuable platform for local designers and artists to strut their stuff and get noticed.

This year’s show offered over 70 booths and two days of fun filled fashion shows and shopping. I was only able to catch the Saturday shows, but some of my favorite designers were in the Friday show - LUXX Ready To Wear and Agader Designs. So from what I experienced, I’d say all around it was a well organized, fun weekend showcasing some fabulous local design talent!

FashionFest is the brainchild of organizer and designer of fabulous frocks and shoes, Naimo Awale. Her collection under the label Nina Nayema closed out the show Saturday to rave reviews, with exquisite gowns and shoes custom made for each model. In fact, the Edmonton Muse’s very own Jessi Toms took to the catwalk, looking gorgeous in a strapless flirty LBD and silver studded stilettos. And totally rocked the runway, I might add!!!

Dark Knits Boutique presented beautifully crafted corsets (and other creations incorporating corset details) for both men and women, which were also a crowd favorite on Saturday night. Shakatell designer Muhire Jean Luc showed fun and flirty designs, a fusion of Western culture with African prints and hues. I was also really impressed by the dreamy creations floating down the runway from Sara Tanwir Designs. The pieces were beautifully cut and sewn, offered in lovely fabrics and colors.
