FITZROY ISLAND
TWENTY BOYS TRAVELLED TO QUEENSLAND FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE ENVIRONMENTAL IMMERSION
Twenty eager Scotch Year 11 boys arrived in Cairns , to be met by the welcome warmth and humidity of the city that is the gateway to the Barrier Reef . Based in Cairns , the boys were in Queensland to participate in Scotch ’ s Environmental Action Immersion .
This immersion was added to the school ’ s Immersion Program in 2020 . Immersions run at Year 11 level as part of the activities and services program . The Immersion Program comprises nine different programs all focusing on a key social justice issue .
Over the five-day Environmental Action Immersion in September 2022 , the boys undertook research and conservation efforts with the volunteer group , Oceans 2 Earth . From their Cairns base , the group travelled to the Outer Reef , Fitzroy Island and Green Island on the various days .
Over the week , the boys had remarkable discussions with the leaders of the program . Cassie , the Director of
