Why advance your career ?

Growing your skillset can allow you to become self-employed . When self-employed , you will have the ability to determine your own working hours and set your own rates , meaning you have greater financial flexibility and control . 2 . Build your own career path
Training can open up new career possibilities that you may not have considered before . With plenty of options available , you can choose the electrical career that ’ s right for you and allow this to guide your training . 3 . Greater job stability

Electrical qualifications exist in a variety of forms , with plenty of options available to suit everyone . For example , a traineeship will allow you to earn an income while you study . This means you won ’ t have to take a career or earnings break to return to college .
What are my career options ?
• Domestic Electrical Installer ( DEI ) DEIs are one of the most common types of electrician , responsible for working on domestic properties , carrying out single phase , domestic installations and repairs . You may be able to earn up to £ 40k per annum as a DEI .
• Installation Electrician Installation Electricians carry out work , such as installing various power or security systems , on a wide range of sites – from construction to commercial . On average , Installation Electricians can earn £ 35- £ 50k per annum .
• Renewable Energy Technician Renewable Energy Technicians install and maintain sustainable and green energy systems , earning up to a possible £ 52.5k per annum .
• Electrical Supervisor Electrical Supervisors carry out electrical work themselves , alongside managing teams , training employees , assigning roles and managing projects . Your earning potential as an Electrical Supervisor can be up to £ 60k per annum .
• Electrical Drafter Electrical Drafters are responsible for creating the technical drawings
( blueprints ) of electrical systems to instruct electrical work , such as dimensions , arrangements and installation processes . As an Electrical Drafter , you can earn up to £ 45k per annum .
The above career paths require different qualifications , such as the Domestic Electrical Installer Award ( limited to domestic , single phase installations and repairs ) or an Electrotechnical NVQ Level 3 Qualification , which incorporates single phase and 3-phase commercial installation .
So , what are the steps to upskill ?
1 . Research – be sure to understand the career path you want to follow and how you can get there . Consider the qualifications you need , the courses you ’ ll need to take part in , the time it will take and the associated costs .
2 . Think about what you want to achieve – think about where you want to be . You can break this down into short , medium and long-term goals , to act as benchmarks for keeping you on the right path towards achieving your dream career .
